Avocado Mattress
Acocado mattress sells mattresses using eco-friendly construction as the primary selling point. This is a great selling point as we’ve already seen with some other mattresses – not only does it mean you’re being kinder to the planet, but it also helps you to avoid unwanted toxins.
Mattress Type
Avocado mattresses are made from 100% natural latex rubber, natural certified organic wool, natural wool and no polyurethane foams. Want to take things even further? The company even makes a vegan mattress made with no wool! Though that’s not what we’re looking at here.
If you want to sleep in an eco-friendly bed, the first thing to do then is to find the right frame which you should ensure is made from wood that has been responsibly harvested. This will mean that there has been minimum damage done to the natural trees and plants meaning that there will be no fewer trees reducing carbon dioxide as a result of your bed. Many companies will plant trees for all those used for instance.
From there though, the mattress is the next crucial step. Is the Avocado a good choice if you also want to actually get to sleep?
Mattress Performance
The good news is that all this eco-friendliness has not come at the expense of comfort. The Avocado remains a supremely comfortable bed, that will provide you with great support, as well as coolness to prevent you from overheating in the night.
The individually pocketed coils are really the star of the show here. They are designed to not only conform to the shape of your body, but also to help offer pressure relief and to encourage proper spinal alignment and balance – like getting a trip to a sports masseuse every night! The design utilizes three separate ‘zones’ with reinforced perimeters which float independently and reduces motion transfer.
A reinforced perimeter also helps to prevent risk of rolling out of bed, while maximizing the potential use of space. Mattress toppers are available to increase firmness if desired. There’s also an option for an additional top layer, this provides natural Dunlop latex rubber foam and is recommended for side and back sleepers, as well as athletes.
PROS
- Very comfortable
- ‘Eco luxury’
- Toxin free
- Lots of individually pocketed springs
CONS
- No memory foam layer
- Premium fee for adding pillow topper
- Uncertainty regarding the actual threat of synthetic materials in mattress construction
- No mention of adjustable bed support

Avocado Mattress Comfort Levels
The Avocado Mattress comes in one comfort level, which is their standard level. If you want a more plush feel, then there is an optional pillow top, which can be added for extra cost.
The Avocado Mattress standard is a gentle but firm mattress, and really sets the standards for affordable eco-luxury. The mattress is 11-inches thick and delivers a good level of firmness and comfort for all parts of your body. Meaning it creates support for your sleep. This mattress is ideal for back and stomach sleepers, as it gives full support.
However if you want a luxury plush feel, then Avocado Mattress offers a optional pillow top. The pillow top has an additional 2-inch layer of 100% natural Dunlop latex rubber foam. Making the mattress a total of 13-inches thick, transforming it into an ideal mattress for side and back sleepers, and those who need extra pressure relief, such as athletes or anyone who daily life involves a lot of movement.
Mattress Materials
The mattress is 11” thick, or 13” with the added pillow top. Included ‘heavy duty’ handles make it easier to move around and install. The Avocado is made from 100% natural latex rubber, natural certified organic wool, natural wool and no polyurethane foams. The mattress is GREENGUARD Gold Certified and eco-INSTITUT Certified too.
The Avocado Mattress also has 8 inches of ergonomic support coils, which is made up from 756-1414 individually tuned support coils, which ensures correct spinal alignment and body balance. The innersprings are individually fabric encased, and then arranged in 3 distant zones with a reinforced perimeter, this ensures the springs float independently and also reduced motion transfer.
This clever system allows for optimal and individual ergonomic and joint support, and also contours to your body shape and even distributes weight. This also improved edge support performance, to reduce the risk of falling of the mattress.
Another great benefit of the material is that it is naturally anti-microbial, resistant to dust-mites, and naturally highly effective at temperature control. You see, when you let nature do its thing, you tend to get incredible results. After all, mother nature really is the best engineer!
Mattress Layers
The Avocado Green Mattress Standard has the following layers:

Leggett & Platt Quantum Edge® Elite Combi-Zone®
Along with that, it also features 1,414 pocketed support coils, that will alter their position and support as necessary. Avocado comes with no memory foam layers however, and you’re really only getting the one main layer unless you choose to upgrade.
