SleepOvation Vs Simba Mattress Review

The patented design of the SleepOvation takes a 2 ¼ x 2 ¼-inch cut-out of 3-inch memory foam block specially designed for SleepOvations purposes, then forces it into a rectangular sleeve before encasing it in fabric pockets.
This cushion pocket then attaches to the end of a .078″ high-tensile carbon steel spring, creating an independent mattress that’s a few inches in width – also known as the “tiny mattress.” SleepOvation them combine 700 of these tiny independent mattresses into one bed, to provide an unmatched sleep experience in terms of comfort and support.

The mattress provides independent suspension zones that react to bodyweight distribution, even spreading the weight across the surface of the bed while giving separate levels of support according to the height and weight of the sleeper. The result of the tiny mattresses providing independent comfort zones leads to a reduction in back pain and discomfort during the day, as well as restlessness caused by foam-layer beds that don’t offer the same level of independent weight distribution and motion transfer.
The SleepOvation provides industry-leading airflow through its mattress, with the single tiny beds providing a gap between each pocket, allowing air to move freely. The hypoallergenic mattress cover is removable and machine washable, as are the pocket covers for the tiny mattresses.

The SleepOvation sources all its materials for manufacture in the United States, with their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility located in East Hanover, NJ, USA.

Simba Mattress Construction

Simba Hybrid Mattress

The Simba sits with a profile of 9.75-inches in height, its layers include comfort memory foam and synthetic latex foam, with a 2-inch innerspring layer, sitting on top of a 6-inch high-density polyfoam base.

The polyfoam base features a grid-style cutout every inch or so across the length of the bed, improving airflow through the other layers. The grid-style base creates plenty of pressure zones for superior comfort. The latex layer provides extra bounce and resilience to the mattress while creating a cool sleeping experience that ensures you won’t sleep hot, even on the warmest summer nights.

Simba markets their mattress as a “hybrid,” meaning a blend between memory foam and pocketed innerspring coils. However, it’s important to note that the Simba is not a true hybrid by Tuck standards because it doesn’t have full-size pocket innersprings.
The Simba has a patented 2-inch mini-coil spring that provides hundreds of independent pressure zones across the surface of the mattress, providing excellent motion transfer and pressure relief.

Like many hybrids, the Simba offers a medium-firm sleeping experience that’s around a 6.5 out of 10 on the firmness scale. The Simba features a removable stretch polyester cover that’s machine washable and breathable, allowing for enhanced airflow through the mattress.

SleepOvation Vs Simba Mattress Firmness, Comfort & Support

SleepOvation rates their 700 mattresses as the most significant sleep innovation in the last 100-years, and they may have some truth in this statement. The 700-independent “tiny-beds” in this mattresses provide an unbelievable sleep experience that like no other bed available.
The tiny mattresses provide 700-independent pressure zones that conform to the height and body weight of the sleeper. If you’re carrying more weight around the midsection, then the tiny mattresses will provide you with more support around the torso.

The specialized memory foam in the top layer is soft and luxurious, and the coiled carbon spring provides excellent support to the top layer. This bed provides a softer sleeping experience than the Simba, with the top layer being incredibly comfortable, providing you with the sinking feeling of sleeping “in” the bed rather than on the bed.
However, the coiled springs provide good resilience to the mattress, allowing you to get in and out of bed without the hassle of trying to “swim” for the edge. The edge support on the SleepOvation is excellent when you’re lying on the bed. We would rate the SleepOvation as a 5.5 to 6 on the firmness scale and suits those sleepers that like a softer bed.

The individual support zones around the edge keep you from rolling out of bed. However, sitting on the side of this bed is not recommended, as you won’t find any support available.

The Simba mattress provides a comfortable, medium-firm sleep experience. The five layers of foam and springs do an excellent job of providing pressure relief to the hips and shoulders while reducing motion transfer. The Simba is excellent for anyone that has a partner who tends to get up during the night, as the 20-mm coil springs dampen movement, isolating the motion to the affected area.

The top layers of specialized memory foam and latex provide a “sink-in” feeling to the mattress that provides decent edge support, keeping you in your sleeping position. The cross-cut dual-foam base provides great pressure-zone relief, with the micro-coils adding extraordinary resilience that doesn’t leave you with the “Bogged-down” feeling when you’re trying to get out of bed.

SleepOvation Vs Simba Mattress Off-Gassing & Temperature

“Off-gassing,” refers to a period where VOCs, (volatile organic compounds) leech out from the materials in the mattress. An example of this effect is the “new-car smell.” Both brands in this review gas most of the VOCs off at the factory, so it doesn’t have to do it at your home.
They then compress the mattress and package it before shipping to your home. When you receive the bed and strip the packaging, you might notice a slight smell present in the room for three to five days as the VOCs finish gassing off. There’s no health threat from these VOCs, and you can sleep on the mattress while they’re gassing off with no ill health effects.
Both mattresses sleep cool that’s to their intuitive design. The Simba’s cross-cut lines on their dual-density foam base, combined with the latex memory foam provide excellent airflow while sleeping.

However, the SleepOvation takes it to another level, with maximal airflow achieved between the 700-individual tiny mattresses. If you’re a “hot-sleeper,” then either mattress will work well for you, but we suggest you look at the SleepOvation if you struggle with night sweats of sleeping hot.

Sleepovation Vs Simba Mattress - Sleeping Positions

People sleep in three general positions, on their stomach, side, or back. Most people sleep on their back, with around 30-percent sleeping on their side, and less than 10-percent of people choosing to sleep on their stomach.

Side Sleepers

Side sleepers also can choose between either mattress, but we think the SleepOvation has a slight edge, due to its softer top layer that allows for outstanding pressure relief on the shoulder and hips while sleeping.

It’s not that the Simba doesn’t also offer the same from its combination of foam and micro-coils, but we think that the sinking feeling on the SleepOvation provides better pressure relief for side sleepers, especially those with shoulder problems.

Back Sleepers

For back sleepers, you have the choice of either bed. If you prefer a softer sleeping surface, then we recommend the SleepOvation. The top memory foam layer combines with the springs allow you to sink deep into the top layer while still benefitting from the medium-firm support of the coiled steel springs.

Stomach Sleepers

Stomach sleepers are a tough crowd to satisfy. Sleeping on your stomach places your spine and neck at a bad angle while you’re sleeping. Therefore, stomach sleepers should consider purchasing a bed with a soft pillowtop where their pillow and face can sink into the mattress.
For this category, the SleepOvation is the hands-down winner. The tiny mattresses provide the least amount of pressure on the neck and spine, allowing for optimal spinal alignment.
The Simba mattress has excellent edge support, translating into not enough give around the head of stomach sleepers, forcing them to sleep without a pillow to reduce strain and prevent waking up in the morning with a stiff neck.

So wrapping this section up, we would say that the SleepOvation is suitable for all styles of sleeping, while the Simba is best for back and side sleepers only.

Sleepovation Vs. Simba Mattress – Which Ones for You?

Both the Simba and the SleepOvation have individual design elements that make them class-leading mattresses. The SleepOvation is the most innovative design we’ve seen in all of our years assessing and reviewing mattresses. The 700-tiny beds in each mattress make for an exceptionally snug feeling and comfortable sleeping experience.

However, the cost of innovation and design is evident in the price tag for the SleepOvation. Fortunately, the company offers a financing deal on your purchase, allowing you the spread the cost of your new investment over a few months to lighten the load on your bank account.
The Simba is by no means an inferior mattress, and we think the micro-coil innovation in this hybrid mattress puts it a league ahead of many other memory foam mattresses and hybrids available. The Simba comes in at an affordable price point. It’s not a cheap bed by any means, but it offers remarkable functionality and comfort when compared to other mattresses in its price range.

When comparing the two beds side-by-side, it’s tough not to be mesmerized by the outstanding design and comfort of the SleepOvation, and that’s a shame because the Simba is a durable, functional, and comfortable mattress that’s excellent value for money.

SleepOvation Vs Simba - Wrap Up

Sleeping on the right mattress is key to getting a good night’s rest. While both of these mattresses in this review offer exceptional comfort and functionality, they both have entirely different properties. Back sleepers will get benefit from either bed, while side-sleepers and stomach sleepers may benefit from the SleepOvation.

If you’re on a budget, then the Simba is your best bet, but if you have the extra money available, then we recommend you invest in the SleepOvation. It’s all about your personal preference, and what matters most for you in a mattress.

If you’re still on the fence, we recommend you make a list of pros and cons for each mattress according to your sleep preferences. After coming up with the winner, order a risk-free sleep trial to see if its right for you.
