SleepOvation Mattress Reviews (2022) - Chiropractor Endorsed Mattress

Sleep is incredibly crucial to your happiness, health, and even lifespan. And yet so many people settle for a sub-par mattress. In our SleepOvation Mattress Reviews, we will look in detail this mattress performance

Getting a poor night of sleep can lead to you feeling rubbish the next day, performing sub-optimally, maybe getting into a fight with your spouse, and certainly making stupid mistakes at work. You actually look physically worse too (they call it beauty sleep for a reason!). It can even be dangerous – with some studies suggesting that driving when sleep deprived can be nearly as dangerous as driving under the influence of alcohol.

In the long term these deficits add up. Not getting enough sleep shortens lifespans, it increases your chances of hypertension, it increases weight gain, it reduces muscle mass, and it drastically heightens your risk of Alzheimer’s and dementia.

There are so many magical diets and health hacks out there, but the best thing you can do for your performance and health is just sleep more and sleep better.

The SleepOvation Mattress promises to provide a guaranteed better night of sleep by using a unique design that combines hundreds of tiny pocket springs. In doing so, it should boost your overall health and performance drastically. With no ‘hack’ in sight. Let’s see if it can do that. Let’s see if it gets a ‘lying ovation’.

SleepOvation Mattress Reviews Performance

The SleepOvation mattress is a unique concept that promises to offer superior sleep by combining the effects of 700 ‘tiny mattresses’ into one product. What that ultimately means is that instead of getting tens of pocket springs, you instead get hundreds of pocket springs. That in turn means you get the benefits of a sprung mattress (think firmness, support, rebound), but none of the drawbacks – at least in theory.

The mattress type isn’t classified simply as pocket sprung either, but as ‘cushion pocket sprung’, which is to say that it feels even softer and gentler on the body.

What’s also interesting about this mattress is that it doesn’t contain any foam layers. This is quite unique for a mattress of its kind – even pocket sprung mattresses from other manufacturers will often include additional layers of foam which are intended to add extra benefits. The thought is that this can help to give you greater comfort by gaining the benefits of both. But in reality, the effect of the memory foam is very much neutered when it is placed under springs – to the point that it is actually barely noticeable and won’t make a huge difference to your overall sleep quality.

Mattress Layers

Often these layers of memory foam are included primarily in order to make the mattress appear artificially thicker (so the manufacturers can charge more) and to make them sound more high tech. Memory foam actually also ends up reducing air flow though, and in general, this is often just adding to the cost and not the value. By using the proprietary cushion pocket sprung technology, the SleepOvation claims that it doesn’t need all that additional cost.

That’s not to say that this mattress does not have lots going on. Think of this as being multiple layers combined to form a single ‘ultra layer’. That includes all of the following technology and innovation for an excellent night’s sleep:

SleepOvation Mattress Layers

Cushion Pocket

SleepOvation Cushion

This is the unique part of the mattress that offers improved comfort and cleanliness compared with other mattresses. It uses a 3” piece of high density hybrid foam that is wrapped around each spring with gaps in between. That gives the spring a softer movement and also means that air is able to travel around the pockets.

Cushion Pocket Spring

SleepOvation Vertebrae Support

Inside each of those cushion pockets is a .081”/12 gauge steel spring. This is very strong and highly resilient. It can be used for a long time without being damaged.

Tiny Mattress Technology

SleepOvation Air Channels

This is whole layer becomes the ‘tiny mattress’. With each pocket being a combination of foam and a spring, you can see how it fits that billing. But as mentioned, it’s also the gaps between the springs that is important and that provides the ‘airflow channel’.

Firmness and Support

This mattress should have a superior ability to contour to the shape of your body then, as there are more springs to move around your weight. Think of this as being a little like the ‘resolution’ of a television – the SleepOvation mattress is like 4K compared to your regular sub-HD display.

This also means you get better support. If you think about your spine as being almost a ‘dead weight’ when you sleep normally, it makes sense that it is going to dip and sag in places. If you have just a few springs underneath it, then this translates to just a few points of contact, so that it is still possible for that sagging to occur and you might wake up with discomfort.

But when you have hundreds of tiny springs, you can think of this as being like having hundreds of tiny little hands holding you up and supporting you at each point around your body. It’s a major difference and one that is much better for your health overall. The company claims that the unique system is capable of supporting each bone in the spinal column, thereby significantly reducing any likelihood of back pain.

Mattress Comfort Level

In terms of the level of comfort, this is considered to be a ‘plush bed’, which means that it is a little softer and springier than your average memory foam mattress. That said, it is also a lot firmer than your average sprung mattress due to the pockets of foam and their densely packed nature. This ultimately results in something that many people considered to provide a perfect balance between softness and firmness. That is actually what you should be aiming for: something very hard is uncomfortable to sleep on, while something very soft isn’t good for your spine.

This is a matter of taste however, and so we recommend trying out the mattress and deciding for yourself. Everyone is different and we all prefer different levels of softness in a mattress.

Motion Transfer

Having more springs can also in theory reduce the amount of motion transfer meaning that your other half won’t be disturbed by your every slight movement. This is one of the things that a lot of people like about memory foam mattresses – because these are absorbent and don’t bounce, they won’t let that motion ripple through the bed. At the same time though, by having more springs, the SleepOvation is able to better dissipate

We highly recommend this aspect of the SleepOvation mattress and it’s something that you should always look for when choosing anywhere to sleep. It has been speculated that we are simply not intended to sleep with other humans. Other species in the animal kingdom do not consistently sleep with a partner, and this movement can be very unsettling.

Again, the ‘tiny mattress’ solution provides the perfect happy medium that provides the advantages of both types of bed. And there are a few other situations where this comes in handy too – such as when using motion sensors to look out for things such as apnoea, or to monitor an unwell individual.

Edge Support

A somewhat related topic is sinkage and edge support. Edge support refers to how well the mattress supports you at its edges. The worst mattress designs do this badly because the springs are located predominantly in the center with fewer at either end. That means that when you roll to the sides, the mattress can sink and even end up rolling you off onto the floor!

Likewise, mattresses can sometimes ‘sink’ in the middle over continuous use. That’s because the springs start to wear down in the spots where you spend most time, thereby becoming less supportive.

Fortunately, the tiny mattress system here prevents and mitigates that issue. Because there are so many tiny springs, that means they are able to be more evenly distributed with no obvious gaps. At the same time, the many springs also allow for more evenly distributed weight and pressure – so you won’t wear out a few springs faster than all the rest.

All these significant advantages add up to a bed that is equally comfortable all over and that is resilient and will last a long tie.

Temperature

The temperature of any mattress is incredibly important. This has been demonstrated recently in a study looking at tribes of indigenous humans. These hunter gatherers were found to have above-average sleep and performance as a result. The assumption was that this was due to the fact that they rose and woke as the light changed.

A sweaty bed only makes this worse. So make sure you have a bread that breathes and that won’t get overly hot. Fortunately, the SleepOvation mattress does this extremely well, by allowing air to pass through in between the individual cushion spring pockets.

Off Gassing

Off gassing meanwhile refers to the release of unwanted chemicals. This is typically less of an issue with an entirely sprung mattress, but the fact that these springs include small amounts of foam means that it is something that needs to be considered.

All components of the SleepOvation mattress are sourced in the US and are CertiPUR certified. As with any mattress, it may have a slight smell to begin with, but this should dissipate with time if you air it and you can rest assured that there are no toxic chemicals used.

Value and Trial Period

All the best mattress companies these days are offering a similar option to test their products and then decide after a short period of time whether you wish to keep the product or return it. The SleepOvation mattress is no different and users are encouraged to test the beds for 100 nights before deciding. If you don’t like the unique design, you can return it and receive a full refund. There is a 10 year limited warranty too, so you know it’s a resilient product.

Compatible With

The Sleepovation mattress is great with solid bed frames and compatible with adjustable bed frames.

How To Unbox The SleepOvation Mattress

The Sleepovation mattress will arrive in a box, similar to most bed in a box mattresses. Once you receive the box, take it to the room where you intend to have the mattress. Unbox the mattress on its side and position the mattress onto the bed foundation or bed frame etc, and then remove the plastic cover. Next unroll and unfold your SleepOvation mattress and tear away any inner plastic wrap. Now stand back and watch your mattress expand into a full mattress, open some windows too, so the mattress can air out any factory smell.

SleepOvation Pillow

The SleepOvation Pillow is the first pillow to individual support to the 26 individual muscles in our neck. Inside this unique pillow there are 77 individual cushions, engaged with pocketed micro-springs, which is a similar build to the SleepOvation mattress. This great design allows the pillow to provide pressure relief and contour to your neck, head and face, giving you a comfortable sleep.

The pillow is also made with a cool touch and has a sweat resistant cover, which can be removed and washed, great for keeping your bedroom smelling fresh. This pillow is also very cooling, because air flows freely between the tiny individual cushions.
